SO

At first I completely ignored the “yaoi” genre since simply Googling Boku no Pico left me scarred. But after talking to a mutual of mine on Instagram, I decided to watch a yaoi anime that she’d suggested.

Which brings you, my review on Sekai-ichi Hatsukoi!

Ritsu Onodera seems like an inwardly shy but abrasive 25-year-old who had a love for books since he was just a kid. This leads him to working for a high position in the Literature department at his father’s publishing company. He works very hard and even receives a star author as his client. Of course, what could you expect for the heir of the company’s CEO? It’s no wonder his co-workers disliked him so much, but it’s not like he applied with the intention to even have such a high position. But of course, no one would believe that.

It’s through his love of books that leads him to attending the library regularly during his free time in high school, which is where he speaks to his high-school love for the first time in person, Masamune Takano. However, this doesn’t go too well when Ritsu admits to his long-time crush that he loves him.

And literally all the guy does is pat his head.

DO THIS GUY HAVE ANY IDEA HOW HUMILIATING THAT IS??? JESUS I WOULD WANT TO DIE IF THAT WERE ME

Anyway, after having enough of the trash-talking from his coworkers Ritsu ends of transferring himself to Murakawa Publishing, where he’s placed in the shoujo manga department even though he specifically asked to work in literature. What a huge step down, right?

Well, it is true. Plus it seems like working on the team he’s been assigned is pretty stressful. But on the bright side the team has an editor-in-chief who’s passionate about receiving great results from both his coworkers and their authors.

So passionate that he uses Ritsu to help him capture an image for a client of theirs, which was a kissing scene that the author just couldn’t get quite right.

Who could be this mysterious editor whom no one acknowledges by name for some odd reason? It’s obviously Takano, but I’m not sure if Ritsu even notices it.

(I’m Takano in this gif to be honest)

I’m very excited to see the second episode!! So far I think this anime is absolutely adorable (and funny as well, of course). I’d like to thank @legendofwookiee from Instagram for recommending this to me!

  1. Boku noi Pico is shotacon, and Sekaiichi hatsukoi is Shounen Ai ><
yaois is basically hentai but with dudes. Shotacon is like a sub yaoi but with little boys. Damn the semantics though, I love yaoi and I hope you enjoy Sekaiichi Hatsukoi.

  2. Here’s a genre I’ve not explored but reading your post has got me curious! If it turns out to be any good from your reviews maybe I’ll give this anime a shot! ??

    1. You should! It definitely wasn’t what I expected and I’m getting anxious to watch the next episode already. I found out this is actually “shonen-ai”, which is a genre devoted to Boy’s Love while yaoi is the smut side of shonen-ai. This definitely cleared things up for me quite a bit ?
